The International Law Commission, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1947, assists in the development and codification of internaonal law. A body of experts, this commission was to undertake the mandate of the Assembly - initiate studies and make recommendations for the purpose of encouraging the progressive development of international law and its codification. Forming an integral part of the UN, it is currently focusing on crimes against humanity, protection of environment in relation to armed conflicts, general principles of law and immunity of state officials
